OCAS

OCAS is an advanced, market-oriented research centre specialised in steel and metal-based products and applications. OCAS anticipates its customer’s needs by developing and implementing advanced technologies to increase the reliability of critical assets, by developing alloys and coatings, by producing and testing samples and co-develop steel applications. OCAS is equipped with state-of-the-art R&D tools and facilities in its laboratories in Zelzate and Zwijnaarde (Belgium). The research centre valorizes know-how by product and solution development.

In the domain of Structural Integrity OCAS focuses on the reliability of critical production equipment such as heavy cranes, runway girders and other large-scale welded steel constructions.
OCAS has the knowledge and experience to evaluate these assets using numerical evaluation methods to identify critical hotspots. In our Structural Health Monitoring projects, we develop advanced digital twin systems to predict remaining fatigue lifetime or apply crack sensors to enable on-line monitoring of fatigue-critical locations.

OCAS has a highly qualified team of over 150 researchers and engineers with an international orientation serving customers worldwide. OCAS is a joint-venture between the Flemish Region and ArcelorMittal.
